The General tab holds the two site-wide defaults for your calendar. It is a short screen, and this guide also shows where everything else you might be hunting for actually lives.
Getting there
Open HappenBoard → Settings. The sections appear as sub-items in the sidebar, and General is the first of them. Settings is administrator territory: editors can manage events, venues, organizers, attendees and bookings, but the Settings and Integrations screens stay hidden from them.
Alongside General you get Email, Migration, Tools, AI agents and Health. HappenBoard Pro adds its own sections to the same list when it is active.
Site defaults
One card, three controls, one Save button.
Default calendar view
Choose between Month, Week, Day and Agenda. The value is stored with the rest of your HappenBoard settings and travels with the settings backup.
Two things are worth knowing about where a calendar actually opens. The admin Calendar screen reopens on whichever view you last used, remembered in your own browser, so each person on your team keeps their own habit. And the front-end Calendar block carries its own Default view control in the block sidebar, which is the one that decides what a visitor sees. Set the visitor-facing view there.
Default event duration (minutes)
A slider from 15 to 480 minutes in steps of 15. Like the view, it is stored with your settings and included in the settings backup.
When you are creating an event, the start and end times are set on the event itself. Dates, times and all-day events walks through how the date fields behave, including all-day events and events that run past midnight.
Currency
A three-letter currency code, USD by default. It decides how any amount the free plugin displays is written, which today means the price on a booking type.
It is a display setting, not a payment setting. Changing it relabels existing prices rather than converting them, so set it once, before you start pricing anything.
Saving
Click Save and a short confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen. There is no separate publish step, so the change takes effect immediately.
The same values in the setup wizard
These two defaults are also step 2 of the setup wizard, which runs the first time you activate HappenBoard. Whatever you set there is what you will find on this tab, and you can re-run the wizard from Settings → Tools at any time to walk through them again.
Where the other settings live
- Settings → Email: confirmation and reminder emails, sender name and address, and the colours and logo used in the mail your site sends. See automatic emails.

Backing the settings up
Everything on this tab, and everything on the Email tab and in Integrations, lives in one settings record. Settings → Tools exports it as a JSON file and imports it back, which is the quickest way to copy a configuration from a staging site to a live one.
