A recurring event is an event that repeats, like a weekly class or a monthly meetup. You describe how it repeats once, and HappenBoard creates every date. Each date shows in your calendars and takes its own sign-ups.
Turn repeating on
- Open the event and set its start first: the series repeats from that day and time.
- In the Recurrence panel of the sidebar, switch on Repeat this event.
The rule starts as “every week, with no end”. The Recurrence section of the quick form, on the Events and Calendar screens, has the same controls.
Choose how often
Frequency offers Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly. There is no hourly option.
The slider under it sets the gap between two dates, from 1 to 30. Its label follows the frequency, for example Every N weeks. Set it to 2 for every other week.
Pick the days
For a Weekly rule, the Repeat on row shows one button per day, Monday first. Select Tuesday and Thursday for a class that runs twice a week. With no day selected, the series keeps the weekday of the start.
For a Monthly rule, Repeat on offers three choices:

| On a day of the month | Pick a day in Day of the month, from 1 to 31, or Last day of the month. Months without that day are skipped. |
| On a weekday of the month | Pick Which (first, second, third, fourth or last) and a Weekday, for example the first Thursday. |
A Yearly rule repeats on the date of the start each year.
The start always counts as the first date, even when it does not match the days you chose. Start the series on one of its days, such as the first Thursday of a month.
Choose when it ends
Ends has three options:
- Never: the series has no end.
- After a number of occurrences: set Number of occurrences, from 1 to 365 (10 at first). The first date counts as one.
- On a specific date: set the End date. A date that starts after it is left out.
Check the dates
Under the controls, Repeats on lists the first six dates of the series. It updates a moment after each change. If the rule cannot work, it shows the reason instead.
The line under the dates counts the ones that follow, looking 25 dates ahead at most. A series of 30 dates shows “6 dates shown, 19 more follow.” From 25 dates on, the note “An open-ended rule keeps going past this preview.” follows, even when the rule has an end. A series of six dates or fewer shows its total instead.
Dates follow your site’s time zone. A weekly event at 19:00 stays at 19:00 when the clocks change for summer or winter time.
The small grey box at the bottom shows the rule in the standard calendar format, such as FREQ=WEEKLY;BYDAY=TU,TH. You do not need to read it.
What visitors see
The event page lists the next dates under Upcoming dates, with a summary that names the days, such as “Every month on the first Thursday”. When more dates follow, a See all dates link opens a page with all of them.
In the sign-up form, visitors choose the date they come to. The capacity applies to each date separately.
Rules imported from other calendars
A rule brought in from another calendar can use options the builder has no control for, such as two days of the month. The panel then shows Custom repeat rule, with a summary of the rule and its real dates. HappenBoard keeps it as it is. Click Replace with a simple rule to edit it with the usual controls.
A rule HappenBoard cannot follow is refused when you save, with the reason. Examples: repeating every hour, at given minutes, or with both a number of dates and an end date. The event keeps its previous rule.
Change a rule later
Saving a new rule rebuilds every date of the series. With HappenBoard Pro, you can skip or move one date of a series. That change stays as long as the new rule still has that date.
People signed up for a date that disappears or moves get an email about it. Their reminder follows the new time.
HappenBoard keeps up to 1,000 dates of a series at a time. A longer or endless series rolls forward every day, so upcoming dates never run out.
