The setup wizard opens by itself the first time you activate HappenBoard. It takes four steps and sets the defaults every new event will inherit. Nothing it asks is permanent, so you can move quickly.
Step 1: welcome
A summary of what the wizard is about to cover: your calendar defaults, your notification emails, and importing events from another plugin. Click Get started.
Step 2: calendar defaults
Two values, both stored with your settings and included in a settings backup.
- Default calendar view: Month, Week, Day or Agenda.
- Default event duration (minutes): a slider from 15 to 480 minutes, in steps of 15.
Worth knowing where these two values are read today. The admin Calendar reopens on whichever view you last used, which your own browser remembers, and the Calendar block you place on your site carries its own view setting chosen when you insert it. An event created from the quick panel is given a one hour duration.
Step 3: notifications
This step decides what your attendees receive when they sign up.
- Send confirmation when someone RSVPs: an immediate confirmation email.
- Send reminder before the event: a reminder email scheduled ahead of the start.
- Reminder lead time (hours): how long before the start the reminder goes out.
- From name and From email: both optional. Left blank, HappenBoard uses your site name and your WordPress admin email.
Step 4: import from another plugin
If you already run another events plugin, HappenBoard detects it and offers to bring across your events, venues, organizers, categories and attendees. Starting fresh? Skip this step.
Detection reads the database directly, so a migration still works even when the other plugin has been deactivated.
Finishing
The last screen confirms your defaults are saved and offers to open the dashboard or create your first event.
Every step except the welcome screen has a Skip button, and Save & exit is available throughout. Anything you skip keeps its default value and can be changed later under HappenBoard → Settings.
Running it again
You can replay the wizard at any time from HappenBoard → Settings → Tools, using Re-run setup wizard. It will show your current values rather than the defaults.
What’s next
- Create your first event, which will use everything you just configured.
- Get to know the dashboard.
