One date of your weekly class falls on a public holiday, or one session has to start an hour later. You can skip or move that single date from the admin Calendar, and every other date of the series stays the same.

Open the date
- Go to HappenBoard → Calendar.
- Find the date and click it.
A panel opens with the date (When), the Venue and Organizer when set, and the number of Attendees going. Below are the actions.
Quick edit and Full editor open the whole event: what you change there applies to every date. The actions for this date only are Reschedule…, Skip this date and, on a date you already moved, Reset to series time.
Move one date
- Click Reschedule…. A window titled Reschedule this date opens and shows the original Series date.
- Set New start and New end, in your site’s time zone.
- Click Reschedule.
The end must be after the start, or the window refuses it. You can also drag the date to another day or hour in the calendar. In the week and day views, drag its bottom edge to change the end. A drag moves only that date.
To undo a move, open the date and click Reset to series time. It goes back to the time the repeat rule gives it.
Skip a date
Click Skip this date. That date disappears from your public calendars and lists, the iCal feed and the event’s list of dates. Visitors can no longer choose it in the sign-up form. The event and its other dates do not change.
The admin Calendar still shows the skipped date, greyed and struck through, so you can bring it back: open it and click Restore this date.
What attendees receive
People registered for the date are told automatically by email:
- A moved date sends a “Date changed” email with the new date and an updated calendar file. Their reminder follows the new time.
- A skipped date sends a “Date cancelled” email, which mentions the event’s other dates when there are some ahead. No reminder goes out.
You can preview both emails in HappenBoard → Settings → Email.
Nobody loses their registration. In HappenBoard → Attendees, their date is flagged Time changed or Date cancelled. The Date no longer exists tab lists people whose date is gone, so you can move them with Change date. See managing attendees.
Changes that undo your edits
Saving the event again, to fix its title or venue, keeps your skipped and moved dates. A change of the site’s time zone keeps them too.
Each edit is tied to one date the repeat rule creates. If you change the rule so that this date no longer exists, the edit is lost. The same happens when you change the event’s start time, including with Shift dates on the Events screen.
Without Pro
With the free plugin, the panel of a date shows only Quick edit, Full editor, Attendees and the publish button. Dragging a date of a recurring event is refused with the message “Moving a single date of a recurring event requires HappenBoard Pro.” The date goes back to its place.
You can still:
- Edit the whole series: its repeat rule, start time or end, knowing every date changes.
- End the series earlier and create a separate event for the odd date.
