One date of a weekly series falls on a public holiday, another has to start an hour later. This guide covers how the admin Calendar handles a single date without disturbing the rest of the series.
Open the date
Go to HappenBoard → Calendar and click the chip for the date you want to change. A preview panel opens showing When, the Venue and Organizer if the event has them, and how many Attendees going it has, followed by a row of actions.
Two of those actions are always there: Quick edit and Full editor both open the whole event, and anything you change there applies to every date. The per-date actions are the ones below.
The per-date actions
- Reschedule…: move this one date to a different time.
- Reset to series time: shown only on a date you have already moved, it puts it back where the rule says it belongs.
- Skip this date: take this date out of the series. On a skipped date the same button reads Restore this date.
These three appear only on an event that repeats, and only when HappenBoard Pro is installed and active. Without Pro the preview panel stops at Quick edit, Full editor, Attendees and the publish or draft toggle.
Moving one date
- Click Reschedule…. A window titled Reschedule this date opens.
- It states that only this occurrence moves and that the rest of the series is unchanged, and shows the original Series date underneath so you can see what you are moving away from.
- Set New start and New end. Both are in UTC, like the rest of the event editor.
- Click Reschedule. If the end is not after the start, the window says so and the button stays disabled.
You can also drag the chip to another day or another hour, which does the same thing. Dragging a date of a recurring series is refused when Pro is not active, and the chip snaps back to where the rule put it, rather than silently moving every other date with it.
A one-off event behaves differently: dragging it simply changes its start and end, because there is no series to protect.
Skipping a date
Skip this date removes that single date from the site. It stops appearing in calendars, listings and the event’s public list of dates. The event itself stays published and every other date carries on.
In the admin Calendar the skipped date is still drawn, struck through and marked as cancelled, which is what lets you click it again and choose Restore this date. That is deliberate: a date you cannot see is a date you cannot bring back.
Why these edits survive a save
Saving an event rebuilds all of its dates from the repeat rule. Your per-date changes are re-applied on top of that rebuild, matched to the date they were attached to, so a later edit to the title or the venue does not quietly undo them.
The match is to a specific date produced by the rule. If you change the rule so that date is no longer generated, the skip or the move has nothing left to apply to.
Without Pro
Two approaches work with the free plugin alone. You can edit the rule, accepting that it moves the whole series. Or you can shorten the series and publish the odd date as its own separate event, which also lets it carry its own title, venue and description.
